After being a vegan for a number of years, I have found that there are some foods that I don't tolerate well. Butter and milk seem to be on the top of that list. My body wants to get rid of them as quickly as possible. I have missed reading the ingredients in something that I couldn't believe had dairy. Sometimes, I am served something that a server was sure was dairy free.
It used to be a big, uncomfortable ordeal. No longer. I now carry activated charcoal capsules with me, take 2 or 3, and the crisis is averted. I take a couple more later if I'm still feeling lingering effects. I used to eat activated charcoal powder, mixed with water. That was hard to do and could get messy. Now I just take the capsules. You can buy the capsules at most stores. I like making my own, because it's my idea of fun. (It is still rather messy.)
Activated charcoal is very handy for a number of other things. It traps and absorbs toxic chemicals from your gut, and sends them out with the feces. For more of the pros and cons of activated charcoal check out this article. Worth the read.1
